Sleep is as essential to babies as proper diet and fresh air. Sleeping at night is not enough for babies; he/she should also get some sleep during the day, in fact, the younger they are more they should sleep.
Organizing the sleeping schedule is one of the most important things for babies. They tend to sleep during the night as well as during the day. In both cases similar times must be maintained. This rhythm is very important for developing organism. Planned sleeping regime will help you in accomplishment of this goal.
On average babies sleep from 9 to 10 hours during night and 3-4 hours during daytime. The amount of sleep baby gets is individual, especially during the first year. But there is an average of amount of hours that babies need to sleep and parents should make sure their baby is has enough sleeping time. At the first month babies should sleep between 16-18 hours during 24 hours. Slowly at 6 weeks old your baby will sleep more during the night than the day. On his second month your baby will sleep between 15- 17 hours during 24 hours, and you can encourage him or her to sleep most the his/ her sleeping time during the night by implying sleeping time routine starting from 7 pm. At three to six month your baby will sleep 15 hours that will split to 10 hours during the day and 5 hours during the night. Six to eight months- your baby will sleep 11 hours at night and 3 hours during the day. Nine month to a year- your baby will sleep 14 hours. Most of them during the night and twice during the day.
The American Academy of Pediatrics( AAP) and the (CPSC) recommends that healthy infants be placed on their backs to sleep on their own crib or bassinet
